CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD
Château Lafite Rothschild is located at the northern tip of the Pauillac appellation, sitting in the shadow of Saint-Éstephe's Cos d'Estournel. Though it is not certain exactly when vines were first planted at Lafite, its history dates back to medieval times.
Classified in the 1855 classification as a First Growth, Lafite was considered at the time to be the top of that group, its remarkably consistent performance over the ensuing years ensuring that reputation has remained unchallenged.
The 100-hectare property is planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon. Lafite go to extreme lengths to ensure quality: only around a third of the crop ends up in the Grand Vin, and the wine is matured in barrels produced by Lafite in their own cooperage. The estate's second wine is under the label Carruades de Lafite.
